Robert J. Mitchell – Chief Executive Officer

Robert came to Canada with his family in 2003 and became a proud Canadian citizen in 2011. He worked for the Boys & Girls clubs in the UK for 12 years, rising from an Activities Officer in Manchester, to a Development Officer in London and finally to the CEO of Middlesex Young People`s Clubs. In 2006 he became the Executive Director of the Independent Living Resource Centre of Calgary and in 2009 moved to Central Alberta where with his wife Jill bought Parkland Beach General Store which is located on the North West Edge of Gull Lake. Robert holds a BA (Hons) Degree in Sport & Recreation Studies and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management Studies (for non-profit organizations). He joined United Way on September 13th 2011 just two days before the 2011 campaign began. Outside of work Robert is a regular 5km runner, loves to hike in the mountains when he can, enjoys Cross Country skiing, target shooting and is a keen photographer. He also enjoys his Welsh Springer Spaniel dogs, who accompany him on many of his runs and hikes.
Jennifer Forrest has been living and working in the Red Deer since 2008, when she moved from Toronto to raise her family. Raised on a farm in Manitoba, she loves living in a community where you often bump into your neighbours and friends at the grocery store or when out for a walk. Jennifer has been with United Way almost as long as she has been in Red Deer, and enjoys the challenges and many rewards of working in the non-profit sector. Her first career in Toronto was focused on the film industry; marketing and distributing feature films, documentaries and DVDs. Skilled in both managing operations and marketing, she has found an opportunity with United Way to further grow her skills and experience.
Lori Jack – Community Impact Development Officer

Lori Jack has lived in Red Deer since 1992. She comes to the United Way after having spent nearly 20 years with Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre. Lori holds BA degrees in Psychology and Child and Youth Care. She spent many of the past 20 years consulting to children, families and community agencies throughout Central Alberta. She has also been involved with a variety of community initiatives including Children’s Council, the management committee to establish the Healthy Families program in Central Alberta, the Autism Collaboration Initiative and Child and Youth Friendly Red Deer. Lori completed her Master’s degree in Management of Non-profit Organizations in 2009. She enjoys working as a team to address the challenges and explore the opportunities in the non-profit sector. Lori joined the United Way in May 2012 and is excited to be working with a dynamic group of people to make a difference in Central Alberta.
Amy Stiksma, CPA, CA – Finance Manager

Amy has lived in Alberta her whole life, and came to Red Deer in 2012 to start her career in accounting. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration – Accounting degree from NAIT and obtained her Chartered Accountant (CA) designation in January 2015. With the conversion of the Alberta accounting industry to a single designation in June 2015, she is now a CPA, CA (Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Accountant). Amy spent 4 years working in public practice at BDO Canada LLP with a focus on municipalities’ and not-for-profits’ year-ends, as well as being part of the office’s charity committee. Amy now joins the United Way and looks forward to using her knowledge to support Central Alberta’s community.
Christine Curtis – Executive Assistant

After graduating from the Broadcast Journalism program at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, Christine went on to spend almost three decades in radio, print, and television news. She and her husband Craig have four children and spend their free time travelling the globe, camping in their 1973 Boler, and enjoying their family, garden, theatre, music, cooking, and eating! Christine has lived in Red Deer since 2009. Prior to that, Christine completed not-for-profit studies with Humber College in Toronto and is excited to now be working for United Way.

Solomon Okhifoh is a Microsoft Certified Solution Associate (Database Administrator). He holds a bachelor degree in Engineering from the University of Nigeria and a master’s degree in Technology Management from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Born and raised in Nigeria, Solomon moved to the United States of America in 2002, where he met and married his Canadian wife in 2004. Solomon and his family relocated to Canada in 2008 and he became a Canadian citizen in 2013. Solomon has a diversified portfolio both in the human services and technology management fields. His previous employers includes: the Salvation Army, Matrix Logistics, the City of Grande Prairie and the City of Red Deer. Solomon currently serves as the IT/Database Administrator for the United Way of Central Alberta.
Vijaya holds a degree in Mathmatics and Statistics from the University of Mangalore, India, and has completed her Professional Bookkeeping Certificate course from Red Deer College. Born and raised in Karnataka, India, Vijaya is fluent in Hindi, Kannada and Tulu. She lived in Purwakarta Indonesia for nine years before moving to Canada in 2004 with her husband and 2 daughters. Vijaya joined the United Way of Central Alberta family in 2007 and became a proud Canadian citizen in 2009. She enjoys working for United Way because it provides leadership and support to the non-profit sector.
Peggy Eyre – Resource Development Associate

Coming from a military family, Peggy has lived and worked in many places. She moved to Alberta in 2011 from Nova Scotia to be near family. For the past 20 years Peggy worked in the field of marketing and communications – primarily for small business. Now as a member of the United Way Resource Development team, she is happy to be putting her skills to good use promoting healthy communities in Central Alberta.
