2010 Press Release – United Way recognizes community campaigns and leadership

We’re challenging everyone in Central Alberta who has a job – to help those who currently don’t have one.
We only have a short time remaining in our 2009 campaign, and we know that every penny counts, and we need every penny to help those who have been left behind or set back by the economic downturn.
So please, donate your hour of pay today, and then send your friends and family this link and encourage them to join you.
Thank you for your support!

2009 Touchdown Celebration Invitation
Campaign Chair, Darcy Mykytyshyn issues an urgent appeal to Central Albertans to help in the final stretches of the campaign. For the first time in 22 years, there is a very real possibility that United Way will fall short in meeting its goal.
Now, more than ever, agency staff are working harder to meet the increased demand for services, with some agencies experiencing increases of up to 38%. Now, more than ever, these agencies – and the community – need United Way to reach its goal.
Please act now!

This holiday, you can cast a vote for lasting change and better lives through United Way. Electronics retailer Best Buy is offering to donate $25,000 to four community groups:
- United Way – Centraide
- Salvation Army
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada
- Fast and Female presented by Best Buy
Best Buy has put the decision in the hands of its customers, and has set up a website for people to vote. The organization with the most votes will receive a donation of $10,000. The remaining three organizations will receive $7500, $5000 and $2500 in order of most votes.
It’s all part of the Best Buy for Kids program.
Cast your vote here! (it only takes a few seconds), and please consider forwarding this link to as many people as possible. This year, it’s going to make a crucial difference.
Voting closes on December 22, 2009 at midnight, PST. One vote per family is allowed.
The total donation will be distributed to all United Way locations based on % of participation of their employee campaign. Our local Best Buy ran a fantastic campaign this year with over 33% of their employees participating.
