Many Central Albertans are struggling to afford menstrual products for themselves and their families, with the rising cost of living being just one of many barriers. Not having access to period products – or what we call ‘period poverty‘ – limits one’s ability to participate in community, including work and school. This has significant impacts their physical & mental health and overall quality of life. You can help.
Join the Central Albertan organizations leading the fight against period poverty locally
The Period Promise campaign, originating from the United Way of Lower Mainland in British Columbia, has gained nationwide momentum. Today, the United Way-led initiative catalyzes transformative action, emphasizing the necessity of ensuring barrier free-access to menstrual products for all. Spanning the entire month of May, the United Way Central Alberta Period Promise Campaign aligns with the annual observance of World Menstrual Health Day on May 28th.
Our Period Promise mission is to destigmatize menstruation and work towards helping more people get access to the products they count on with the dignity they deserve. Period poverty is a reality for many Central Albertans, greatly impacting their health and well-being, and equitable participation in life. This year-round focus calls upon local leaders, workplaces, and communities to help break the cycle of period poverty, helping to improve the outcomes for all those who menstruate.
